Dorothy Greene-Jemison

Dorothy R. Greene-Jemison, 73, peacefully surrendered to God on January 10, 2011.

Mrs. Jemison was the founder and owner of Jemison’s Eatery Soul Food Restaurant for 13 years.

She is survived by her husband, Retired US Navy Chief Robert L. Jemison, Sr., two sisters, one brother, nine children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at Noon Tuesday, in Union Baptist Church, 4608 South Blvd, Virginia Beach.

Interment will follow in Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk., VA.

A visitation will be held Monday, from 6pm to 8pm at Beach Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc., 4456 Bonney Road, Virginia Beach.

Obituary:
Mrs. Dorothy R. Greene-Jemison was born on December 10, 1937 in Montgomery, Alabama, the last of ten children born to the late Elijah and Carrie Greene. She received her formal education in the Montgomery, Alabama Public School system where she graduated. She later attended the Chicago City College of Chicago, Illinois and Norfolk State University of Norfolk, Virginia.
 
On December 3, 1956 Dorothy was united in Holy Matrimony in Chicago, Illinois to Mr. Robert L. Jemison, Sr. Dorothy worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Chicago, Illinois until she relocated to Virginia. She later gained employment as Supervisor for the City of Norfolk Department of Parks and Recreation. 
 
Mother Jemison was the backbone of the family. Dorothy leaves behind to cherish her, a loving husband Robert L. Jemison, Sr., two sisters, Rosalie Jones of PA and Annie Wimpie of CA, one brother, Alonzo Greene of IL, and eight children: Charles E. Jemison; Eloise A. Wallace; Jacquelyn Y. Booker; Robert L. Jemison, Jr.; Dorothy R. Jemison; Dennis E. Jemison; Kevin O. Jemison; Keith A. Jemison; and Rosalyn V. Brown. She also had fourteen grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends that will cherish her legacy for years to come.
 
 
May she rest with the angels in heaven!

An Akron Eastsider has gone home to be with the Lord. Mr. Charles Louis Walker, born July 24, 1930, was a life-long resident of the eastside of Akron, Ohio. God called him home on October 4, 2010. He was a 33rd Degree Master Mason of the Phoenix Chapter and a Nobleman of Al-Kaf Shrine Temple #109. He worked at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company for 42 years.
 
He was preceded in death by his father, Mr. Henry Walker, Sr. and mother, Mrs. Estella Pruitt Walker; six brothers; three sisters; grandson, Jimmy Lee Harmon; great grandson, Joe Nathan Jackson. Mr. Charles L. Walker is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mrs. Mittie Walker; brother, Mr. Edward Walker of Canton, Ohio; children, Mrs. Roberta (Perry) Keaton; Ms. Estelle L. Walker; Ms. Charlene L. Walker; Dr. Emily A. (Obed) Monago; Mrs. Noreene (Cecil) Dutch; Mr. Charles H. J. (Marva) Walker; sister-in law, Mrs. Anna Bell (Johnny) Reynolds; brother-in law, Mr. Doston B. (Stella R.) Jones; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
